Global Wave of Civil Disobedience Coming to a Shore Near You!

A global non-violent grassroots civil disobedience action called a “Worldwide Wave of Action” is set to start this April 4 to coincide with the anniversary of the assassination of civil rights leader, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
According to a website created to publicize the civil disobedience initiative, the Worldwide Wave of Action will kick off at sites such as Federal Plaza, Chicago, and Zuccotti Park, Manhattan, to protest “corruption, … overcome divide and conquer propaganda” and create “communities of support and compassion” . The website waveofaction.org features a countdown clock and a world map, which ironically depicts the proportions of the landmasses to make the ‘Western Civilization’ territories look larger than they are. The three-month action, described as a “global uprising” by key Occupy Movement organizer David DeGraw, will start at 6:05pm in Chicago, Illinois, which is the approximate time that the civil rights movement leader was shot.
The idea of the Worldwide Wave of Action, which is organized by activist group Anonymous, is to encourage diverse groups around the world to creatively engage in public acts of civil disobedience, events, private acts of protest, and community-building initiatives, from Friday April 4.
Anonymous has some of the world’s major banks in its sites, such as Bank of America, JP Morgan Chase, Wells Fargo and various Federal Reserve banks as part of a “Move Your Money Bank Rallies”. Groups in the United States are encouraged to join demonstrations outside these banks between April 7th and July 3rd, to carry out similar actions in other countries, and target the World Trade Organization, the International Monetary Fund, and the Bank for International Settlements in Basel, Switzerland.
Suggested acts of civil disobedience include: mass gatherings; demonstrations; marches; parades; worker strikes; sit-ins; strategic debt strikes; and boycotting corrupt corporations.
Suggested private acts of protest include: guerrilla postering; messages on money, and cancel cable television subscriptions and supporting independent media.
Suggested community-building initiatives include: joining local community organizations; participating in food banks and help develop community support systems; starting or joining intentional and autonomous communities; experimenting with new governing systems, hosting teach-ins; and supporting local businesses.
